Bamboo Puddle

After another typical ferocious afternoon thunderstorm, I saw a Japanese print in this puddle in the road.

April Showers

Oh those April showers! I love watching the rain clouds roll in, then watching them get pushed away by the sun. The rain-soaked hiking paths shimmer, changing from gray to silver.

It's a good thing I'm waterproof.

Winter Rain

Cold winter rain drums a staccato beat on the roofs of cars as they hiss and splash through leaf-choked puddles. They disappear down the street, and I'm left with sodden trousers and a beautiful shot of holiday gold.

Rainy Night in Knoxville

Cold November rain has descended on the city. But rain can make things beautiful. Here's an archive shot of the Tennessee Theatre to prove my point. No, I wasn't out wandering about in the rain last night - I was at work.

Knoxlantis

Way down under the ocean there is a kingdom called Knoxlantis. I cruised its silent streets yesterday in my Toyota Bathosphere looking for a bite to eat. I hydroplaned sideways into the parking lot of the local diner. The neon sign said "Friday Special! All You Can Eat Fishcakes and Saltwater Taffy!" That was my kind of place. I slid into a booth and placed my order. The coffee was watery - and decaf. I fell asleep ...
... and woke up on Union Avenue. Staring at the water droplets streaming down the windshield, I sighed and started the engine, with distant echoes of Knoxlantis rippling half-remembered in my thoughts.

Rain Barrel

The Water Quality Forum is raising awareness of water conservation by sponsoring the Rainy Day Brush-Off art contest . Local artists have donated their time and talent to this cause by creating works of art on 55 gallon (208 liter) rain barrels that are being displayed all over town. This is one of my favorites, by local artist Cynthia Markert. These barrels would come in handy today - it's pouring!

A Walk in the Rain

I think rain is going to be the theme around here for the next few days, but we sure do need it to ease the severe drought that much of the southeastern U.S. has been experiencing. I had a lovely early evening walk down Market Square, the downtown pedestrian plaza. The square usually has more activity on a Thursday evening, but today it was serenely silent.
