Miles of Tiles

This is a detail of the tile floor that is found throughout the L&N depot's old passenger area. This one is in what was once the Ladies Waiting Area. They sure don't make floors like this anymore. I'm glad these tiles have been so well preserved.

No floors like this left, and no ladies left either. Not in the polite sense anyway. I'm feeling very Bah humbug at the moment.

That floor is gorgeous! Seems builders just don't take pride in their work anymore to create something special like this. Everything now is so cookie cutter and cold.

Made to appear to be a rug. Such pride in their workmanship.

Wow. This is just grand. I saw a show on HGTV a while back that featured a home in Miami that had been built in the early 20s in teh typical beautiful Florida art deco style. The new owners pulled up the truly awful 1970s linoleum to reveal that every room had mosaic tile floors. It was like the previous owners had covered up a Van Gogh with paint by numbers or something. This floor reminds me of the one in that home's kitchen.

At first glance I thought it was a rug! Nicely preserved feature.

Oh we had us a fine terminal station here in B'ham. But they decided it needed to go, so psstttt. It's gone and gone are all the wonderful details like this. Bravo Knoxville TN for having the good sense to PRESERVE!

It is wonderful to see that preserved. Imagine the thousands of footfalls that criss-crossed that floor.

In the portal, I thought it was a carpet! That's fantastic! And like you, I'm glad it's been preserved. Wow.
