Hao

This is a portrait of my friend Hao. She is first and foremost a luminous human being, a talented artist, and a bartender extraordinaire. She looks at the world with  creative artistic eyes, and I can see some small fraction of that world when I look creatively through my camera's lens.

Such a warm, charming portrait. She is glowing. Bartenders have to be artists. You mentioned something is a recent comment about appreciating feedback. If you could re-shoot this, try moving her to the right of center. Use that rule of thirds thing and have more space open before her than behind her. So many decisions.

The main thing about this image is her personality shines through. You have captured perfectly in the image as you wrote her in your text.

I agree with strangetastes about rule of thirds, it does tend to be the best composition for an image. Saying that sometimes, you just have to throw out the rule book and go with your instincts, like those reflections you took.Classy.

Wow, thank you all for your great comments and suggestions! I am going to practice framing in that rule of thirds and look for the difference. When I took this photo, we were having a conversation about her art.
