SmartFix

It looks like just another day at a construction site. But this construction site affects hundreds of  thousands of people every day. You are looking at Interstate 40, a major east-west artery across the country. One mile of I-40 by downtown Knoxville has been completely closed for reconstruction and won't open again until 2009. The project is called SmartFix, but many people around here call it something rude. Traffic has been routed to the I-640 bypass around Knoxville. The project will widen the Interstate and eliminate the dangerous left-hand merge from downtown onto the highway.
Luckily, I don't have to travel on I-40 much for my local business. Do you have to travel on highways much in your daily routine?

Our motorways are pretty busy so I can't imagine what chaos there would be if they closed down a stretch so I sympathise with you.
Looks hot, dry and dusty down there.

I take the subway for 3/4 of the way and the switch to a bus. So no, I don't have to take the highway on my daily commute.

But I can imagine the headaches when roads (and subway lines) are shut down for construction.

Highway construction is a definite pain, but it sounds like this one should be worth it.
No, I don't have to travel highways much, but when we go to Montgomery, I-65 is undergoing expansion too, so there are plenty of traffic waits on the interstate.

I have a 40 mile ride each way to work, its not as bad as some people around here, but its part interstate part local roads. During the school year it can take over an hour to get to work.

We used to travel through there quite a lot, but I am having trouble remembering this segment of I-40. Seems to me like nearly every interstate is a constant construction project.

Thanks for you kind comments on my blog. Tomorrow on http://neworleansdailyphoto.blogspot.com
the kids really get up in momma egret's face over a slow meal.

I have been on this highway and enjoyed it but don't remember this specific place.

Smart Fix. I would love to know what the crude name is. Maybe I will google it.

It's the costal road or the mountain road. There are some advantages to living on a postgae stamped sized island then.

Up here in MN we have the 35W bridge construction going on, that has had a pretty huge impact on traffic in my neighborhood, but luckily I never had to take 35W much before the bridge collapse.
