Ziggurat

Hodges Library at the University of Tennessee makes a very good Escher-esque photo. It's built like a huge ziggurat; look at all those cubes of knowledge. Architecturally rewarding as it is, the inside is quite challenging for students who are looking for materials in the zig-zagging stacks. The library provides maps to find its buried treasures.

Poor students. But I must say that it is a very interesting building.

curiouser and curiouser . . .

hey, any chance of getting an inside look?

i dunno if the trees in the foreground were inescapable but they DO add to the atmosphere of the shot.

thank you for this post.

Why do college libraries have such strange architecture? Seems to be a trend.

Knoxville really is a mono photographers dream. Do the studenst get an extra degree for negotiating the corridors. It is a maze.

thanks, all. I haven't ventured inside much since my grad school days, when I practically lived there - shut up, it was pre-Internet. I will return, like Patton but without the army.
